AMITALY

AMITALY was the exhibition area dedicated to the additive technology supply chain, sponsored by AITA-ITALIAN ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGIES ASSOCIATION, Fondazione UCIMU and CECIMO.

The area’s focus was the international offering of machines, materials, software, products, testing and post-processing solutions, as well as software and services related to additive manufacturing, whose presence is increasingly widespread across all main manufacturing sectors (aerospace, automotive, biomedical, oil & gas, food, etc.).

The key players were manufacturers, users, service centres, universities, academic/research representatives and start-ups, with the common goal of

  • highlighting, in a cross-cutting manner, the opportunities that the sector offers to all industrial branches from an economic, social and environmental sustainability perspective;
  • presenting the most innovative technological solutions in the sector;
  • networking to initiate new collaborations.

The area also hosted the AITA stand, a meeting point for all additive industry players and a reflection of the sector featuring the following initiatives:

  • presence of the following interactive technological demonstrators of design for additive manufacturing, created by some of the leading Italian research centres:
  • “Design for Additive Manufacturing and augmented reality for high-performance automotive seats” – CIM4.0

The demonstrator illustrated the development journey of a high-performance sports car seat structure, designed to maximize the potential of additive manufacturing in terms of lightweighting, functional integration, geometric freedom and performance optimization.

Through digital content and augmented/virtual reality tools, visitors were able to explore the main design stages, technical choices and industrial benefits enabled by Additive Manufacturing, through an immersive experience designed to make the value of DfAM immediately understandable.

  • Rethinking components for future manufacturing: from traditional design to additive manufacturing techniques – IAM@POLITO

Starting from a wheel hub designed for traditional production processes, the redesign journey necessary to fully harness the potential of metal additive manufacturing was presented. Using CAE software, topological optimization was performed, demonstrating how loads, constraints and functional requirements automatically guide the generation of lightweight, highly efficient geometries designed according to a performance-driven logic.

The demonstration was developed with a practical, interactive approach, encouraging direct discussions with companies, designers and professionals interested in integrating additive technologies into their industrial processes.

An immersive experience combining Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Additive Manufacturing. Visitors were able to explore, manipulate and virtually “touch” three-dimensional components using AR/VR headsets, visualizing their shapes and details as if they were already physical reality. To complete the experience, the same components were displayed in their physical version, produced via 3D printing.

ProM Facility presented the MetraSCAN BLACK Elite 3D Laser Scanner (Creaform). Operating quickly and efficiently with a grid of fifteen blue lasers, this scanner can perform 1,800,000 measurements per second, achieves a maximum resolution of 0.2 mm and boasts a scanning volume of approximately 16 cubic metres. At ProM Facility, this tool is mainly used for reverse engineering of mechanical components: at the AMITALY stands, ProM Facility performed live scans of various 3D-printed objects of its own production for various applications (industrial/medical/cultural heritage) to demonstrate the scanner’s remarkable and innovative capabilities in this field.

  • exhibition of selected works by sculptor Ale Guzzetti, created through additive modelling and printing;
  • award ceremony for the winners of “Additive Future Lab”, the competition dedicated to national Higher Technical Institutes (ITS) involving the design and creation of an innovative component or system through Additive Manufacturing. The ceremony took place on Friday 16 October.
